Contestants representing all 50 states and Washington D.C. will compete for the title of the next Miss USA during the two-hour event.

De Los Santos competed in the Miss Florida USA pageant four times before taking the title amid controversy, last July, when the original victor, Genesis Davila, was stripped of her title for allegedly cheating.

"As Miss USA, I would love to be able to be that inspiration for our immigrant community", said Linnette De Los Santos, who emigrated with her family from the Dominican Republic when she was 5.

Their stories stand in stark contrast to the scandal that enveloped the pageant in 2015, when its then co-owner and now president Donald Trump offended Hispanics when he made anti-immigrant remarks in announcing his bid for the White House.

This year the event will be hosted by actress and dancer Julianne Hough, model Ashley Graham and TV personality Terrence J. The show will also feature a performance by Michael Jackson ONE, the show created by Cirque du Soleil, which is an electrifying fusion of acrobatics, dance and visuals.

A Fil-American beauty is among the contestants hoping to win this year's Miss USA crown.
